To Know God

Writer's picture: India JenkinsIndia Jenkins

To know God is to know His Word! What His word says. We find the heart of God, the Character of God, the joy of God, the sorrows of God all through His Word.

The Lord wants to be known by His creation. He longs to be intimate and chosen by us as He has created us with an ability to choose Him. He chose us to be in His image and His likeness! To speak, to think, to remember, to create, to sing, to dance, to laugh, to feel! What a mighty creation we are through the mighty work of God.

I'm writing today with an importance on the heart of God. This will not be long and drawn out but one focus point and that is to keep the sabbath. The day of rest as our Creator and Father commanded!

Have you noticed the things that God commands us are the very things that keeps us safe, give more life, and joy!

The Lord says six days work and the seventh day rest from all your labors. The Lord said get wisdom and with all thy getting get understand. Wisdom is the principal thing and wisdom add days to our lives. Wisdom is the beginning of the fear of the Lord. As we look at scripture, rejecting our own rebellion and desire to be in control, but really look at it with an open heart and say ok God what are you saying to me? What am I to receive? Help me to, see? Help me to believe that He who created me is not here to destroy me but teach me to live and live abundantly in and through Christ Jesus. My carnal mind, my flesh, my sinful nature want me to say and believe you are against me because of your standard, but I am asking Lord as I read your Word that the light of life will come in and drive out darkness, sin, the work of the flesh, deal with my deaf ears, and blind eyes, so I can walk in the newness of life and believe in Jesus name amen.

As I read Exodus chapter 35 today what stood out to me is how serious God was and is about our obedience to His commandments. Especially honoring the sabbath as a holy day for our lives. To receive the replenishing we need provided by and through His Spirit alone. Our obedience unto the Lord grants us so much and I pray I/we stop fighting against what gives us life. That in us that fight against God, rebellion against His word, disobeying His commands is death expressed through us, and darkness and evil. However, the God we serve is merciful and kind to deliver us from that death and darkness as we come to Him in the name of Jesus.

Exodus 35:2 - Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you a holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord; whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.

That is a strong consequence for not being still and resting and considering this one day out of the week as Holy as our Holy God declared.

The seventh day is the Holy day God says this rest is to replenish us. We are in His image and likeness that is how He created us even before Christ came, before we were put in a physical body and sent to earth we were created in His image and likeness (Read Genesis)

We must do what God did and as He says to rest. The Old Testament reveals the heart of God toward us and His expectation. What pleases Him and what causes the wrath of God. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid (Read Romans)

We must rest so that the Lord can do in us only what He can. Our rest reflects our dependency on the Father to refresh us, it reflects our trust that we know and believe that He knows what's right for us, and that is in all aspects of our being!

This is a serious matter to God the Father, our creator. We must rest!

In this verse we see this is a true priority for us set by God. He put it in stone and this command has dire consequences " He that does not keep the sabbath shall be put to death"

Let us not discount the Old Testament because of grace. The law is still the law, obedience is still required, the infilling of Holy Spirit enables us to obey it and bring joy to the heart of the Father.

The Lord God Almighty gave His Son as a means for us to be the people He created us to be from the beginning before sin hit the heart of humanity. In Christ it is possible, the new creature. The person that walks by the spirit no longer fulfilling the lust of the flesh in Jesus' name amen.

May the sabbath day the Holy Day be our priority for in returning and rest shall we be saved in Jesus' name amen.
